
Instagram has suspended Pornhub verified social media accounts.
Before it was removed, the adult site’s Instagram account had 13.1 million followers and a collection of more than 6,200 posts — including non-pornographic videos and images, according to type(opens in new window).
However, it does “directly [promote] porn,” according to Dawn Hawkins, chief executive of the National Center for Sexual Exploitation, which lobbied Instagram to delete Pornhub’s account. The page also reportedly showcases Reels’ support for the benefits of being a porn performer.
“Given the growing reports of Pornhub hosting child sexual abuse material (CSAM), sex trafficking, rape footage, and non-consensual videos and images, Instagram is right to remove Pornhub from its platform for violating its community standards,” Hawkins said in a statement(opens in new window).
“Instagram is a distribution partner for this criminal enterprise, helping drive millions of people to their site, including children,” she continued. “We’re delighted that Instagram has heard from survivors of sexual abuse who have been personally harmed by Pornhub’s insatiable appetite for profit.”
It’s the latest blow to Pornhub, whose advertising unit TrafficJunky was cut off from accepting Mastercard and Visa payments last month. The financial firms suspended credit card services in December 2020 after Pornhub was found to be spreading child pornography and sex trafficking videos. The freeze also includes affiliate advertising services with Porhub parent company MindGeek.

“Instagram bravely chose to stop working with Pornhub, and it’s time for all corporate entities to follow suit,” Hawkins said. The site’s Twitter account and YouTube channel (where users can find “safe work content”) — with 3.4 million followers and 883,000 subscribers, respectively — remain active.
Neither Instagram nor Pornhub immediately responded to PCMag’s request for comment.
