Bandai Namco’s Gundam Evolution, a free-to-play hero shooter featuring a variety of Gundam and Mobile Suits spanning the popular franchise’s long history, is coming to PC on September 21st. The console version of Gundam Evolution will land two months later on November 30th.
While no specific reason for the late console release was given, Bandai Namco released more details about the first season of Gundam Evolution in a new developer video. Players can expect seasons to last about two months, with new playable units being introduced each season. New mobile suits can be unlocked using in-game currency earned by playing the game or premium currency purchased with real money.
The new mobile suits added as part of Season 1 are Unicorn Gundam, Zaku II (melee loadout), and Mahiroo. Unicorns are equipped with beam gatling guns and have the ability to enhance teammates, making them great in teamwork. The melee variant of the Zaku II is all about getting up close and personal with its powerful hot axe, while the Mahiroo’s strong vertical maneuverability and ability to catapult its attacks from the surface make it a difficult target to target.
There will be 10 playable maps at launch, and as one would expect from a free-to-play shooter, there will be both free and paid battle passes where players can continue to unlock new unit skins and profiles. According to the developers, there will be over 500 items available to unlock at launch.
Gundam Evolution is heavily inspired by Overwatch, which makes it even more interesting that Bandai Namco’s shooter will arrive less than two weeks before Overwatch 2’s release on October 4th. Like Gundam Evolved, Overwatch 2 will be free-to-play and includes the Battle Pass. However, both the PC and console versions of Overwatch 2 will arrive on the same day and feature cross-play and cross-progression, which Gundam Evolution doesn’t support.
Gundam Evolution will be playable on PC via Steam and Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.
