Sorry Deltarune fans: Toby Fox has confirmed that there will be no new chapters coming this year, although the Undertale creators did promise something special.

Earlier today (September 6) Fox tweeted: “We won’t be able to launch any new chapters of DELTARUNE this year…but as usual we have something special [sic] Scheduled for the UT/DR Ch2 anniversary…see you next week! “

Undertale first released on September 15th, so this may be the earliest we can expect Fox to plan for the anniversary surprise.

The first chapter of Deltarune launched on October 31, 2018, and was completely free, followed by the second chapter last September, just days after Undertale’s sixth anniversary. More chapters are promised, but Fox did point out that they won’t be free, and the second chapter is a gift for those looking for an event during the pandemic.

If you’ve only played Undertale, Deltarune is an extension of a deeper universe that tries to do something about the original.

Whatever is announced next week will likely pale in comparison to the slew of potentially big announcements that could come. A report that emerged last week suggested a Nintendo Direct could drop next week, finally confirming the Switch’s Windwaker and Twilight Princess ports, described as a “Zelda blowout.”
