Flew on Ryanair and Would Book Again Despite the Hassle and Extra Fees
The Boeing 737 family, including the unique 737 MAX 8200, forms the backbone of Ryanair’s fleet.
Ryanair was the first airline to fly a special Boeing 737 MAX 8200, which the airline dubs a “Gamechanger”. The carrier ordered 210.
The 737 MAX 8200 is an improved version of the 737 MAX 8 with 197 seats, eight more than the airline’s 737-800, which has 189 seats.
While Ryanair was just one airline in 2018, it has grown to five by 2022. The airline’s four subsidiaries include Buzz, Air Malta, Lauda Europe and Ryanair UK.
Although Ryanair is a big household name, it is also notorious for its barebones products. Over the years, the low-cost airline has earned the title of one of the worst airlines in Europe.
Airline complaints body Aviation ADR received more than 14,000 complaints about Ryanair in 2018, resulting in more than £2,601,618 being paid to customers.
In what period does the post-pandemic reputation last? Ask consumers which airline they would never fly again, and 75% said Ryanair. Through 2022, the airline remains at the bottom of the company’s worst airline list.
After a complicated airport experience and brief departure delay, the $84 last minute ticket was worth it. That’s what it’s like to fly from London to Stockholm on Ryanair.
My journey started from London Stansted Airport at 5.30am and departed at 8.25am. Stansted Airport is London’s fourth largest airport and Ryanair’s largest hub.

I set an alarm 24 hours before my flight so I didn’t miss the online check-in window. According to Ryanair, passengers who do not check in within two hours of their scheduled departure time will be charged £55/€55 per passenger at the airport ticket counter.
Additionally, for those passengers who check in online but do not print their boarding pass, a fee of £20/EUR per passenger will be charged.
However, EU/EEA/UK nationals can obtain boarding passes for free on the airline’s mobile app, although some airports do not yet accept these.
These are just a few of the few rules I have to remember before heading to the airport.
When I checked in, I couldn’t get my boarding pass on the mobile app since I’m a US citizen. Instead, I was asked to print a page and present it at the airport for “visa check”.
Other budget airlines like EasyJet and Wizz Air don’t, and neither do many mainline airlines like Air Canada.
