
COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) – Cleveland Browns defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will retire his college jersey for South Carolina’s season opener against Georgia State on Sept. 3.
On Friday, the school announced the retirement of Clowney’s No. 7 player.
“We’re thrilled to be able to honor one of the greatest cockfighting football players of our time,” said South Carolina Athletic Director Ray Tanner.
Clowney, from Rock Hill, was the country’s top recruit when he signed with the Gamecocks and coach Steve Spurrier in 2011.
The Joker lives up to his demands. He was twice named AP All-American, won the Ted Hendricks Award in 2012 as the nation’s best defensive end, and helped the Gamecocks go 11-2 in his three seasons.

Clowney is the first football player to have his jersey retired since South Carolina receiver Sterling Sharpe was honored in 1987.
