LONDON (AP) — After a winless start to the season and a loss to their main rivals, Liverpool began making a statement against Bournemouth on Saturday.
A 9-0 win, tying the record for the biggest win in Premier League history, did send a resounding message.
Liverpool beat Bournemouth at Anfield to put their early-season struggles behind them, with Roberto Firmino scoring two goals and three more.
After opening with two draws and one defeat, this performance will clear up many questions about whether Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost their edge.
City also showed it could never be ruled out after the defending champions trailed by two goals in their second game in a row. Haaland scored a hat-trick in the second half as City beat Crystal Palace 4-2 at home – a 3-3 draw at Newcastle last weekend.
Manchester United and Chelsea have also won for the traditional powerhouses of the Premier League.
Manchester United beat Southampton 1-0 away to secure their first consecutive Premier League win since February thanks to a second-half goal from Bruno Fernandes.
Chelsea beat Conor Gallagher’s early penalty 2-1 at Stamford Bridge after Raheem Sterling’s two goals.
In addition, Brighton beat Leeds 1-0 and Brentford drew 1-1 with Everton at home.
Arsenal are the only team to start the season with three wins and have a chance to maintain a perfect record when they host Fulham late in the game.
