On Saturday, Democrat Charlie Crist named Miami-Dade County Teachers Union President Carla Hernandez-Mats as his running mate as he challenged Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis in Florida.

Congressman Christer, who served as the state’s Republican governor a decade ago, announced at a rally in Miami that the co-teacher of President Dade President Hernandez-Mats was his choice.

Hernandez-Mats’ selection ensures that the Crist movement is focused on education, an arena where DeSantis is inspiring his conservatives with a hands-off approach to the coronavirus pandemic and policies limiting class discussion of race and LGBTQ issues There has been considerable success in the fundamentals.

Hernandez-Matz defied DeSantis’ administration by advocating for a delay in returning students to school in the fall of 2020 and a continued mandate to wear masks in 2021.

She is the daughter of two Honduran immigrants who came to the US in the 1970s and was the first Hispanic to be elected to lead the United Teachers of Dade in 2016.

Christ won the Democratic nomination for governor on Tuesday after defeating state agriculture commissioner Nicky Freed.
