A British toddler has died after falling into a swimming pool during a family holiday in Spain.
The 17-month-old girl was found floating in the water by her parents in a hotel in Puerto Alcudia on the island of Mallorca and was later found in critical condition, according to local reports.
A resort lifeguard performed first aid as an emergency service, including police, the National Guard and an ambulance rushed to the scene.
Local news reports confirmed that despite the best efforts of doctors at Son Espases Hospital, she died on Thursday. The news site quoted local police in Alcudia as saying her parents were staying at the hotel.
The Foreign Office in London confirmed it was providing support and was in contact with local authorities.

The tragedy comes just two months after a seven-year-old Irish girl died after being pulled from a hotel pool in Mallorca. The girl was taken to the same Son Espases hospital, where she died in intensive care.
The incident took place at the HYB Eurocalas hotel in the resort of Calas, Mallorca.
That same month, a 6-year-old British boy scout died in a swimming pool after drowning at another Mallorca resort.
Corey Aughey, from Northern Ireland, was rushed to hospital in a “critical” condition from the three-star Globales Bouganvilla Apart hotel in Sarcoma, Spain.
National Guard officers arrived at the scene along with local police and another force, and the male student was rescued by emergency paramedics by the pool, but also tragically died at Son Espases Hospital in Palma, the island’s capital.
A spokesman for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British child who died in Mallorca and are in contact with local authorities.”
