saw this week apple Debut its self repair Works with current Mac platforms.Start with M1 power supply MacBook Pro and MacBook Air Laptops, users can order replacement parts, tools and guides to update and repair their own machines.

Unfortunately, Apple’s approach to user repair leaves a lot to be desired from a practical standpoint.

The iFixit team has taken Take a closer look at the process Replacing the battery – Many consider this the obvious choice to replace the battery. This makes switching a component that naturally degrades over time ridiculous at best:

“As of this writing, Apple does not sell you a replacement MacBook Pro battery. They sell you a “Top Case with Battery and Keyboard”. So their guide has you remove all components from the top case. The laptop is It’s built on the top shell, so to make it happen, you have to take the whole thing apart.”

If consumers want to replace a laptop’s battery, they need to overcome many psychological hurdles. The first is the process guide. The almighty 162-page battery replacement guide will walk them through the process. What is the price of the new components for this battery? The top case parts are $527, and Apple recommended tools are another $50…however, if you return a replacement component, you’ll get a generous $88 refund.

Why is the process so complicated? Because Apple designed the M1 MacBook Air and M1 MacBook Pro to place the battery in these inaccessible and awkward places. The design is inherently detrimental to simple battery replacement.

Apple could have easily launched the M1 MacBook design brief with guidelines to “make it easier and cheaper to replace key components like the battery.”

For companies that like to rely on their green credentials and environmental possibilities, replacing the battery is one of the easiest ways to extend the life of a laptop. It’s become more portable, more efficient, and it’s much cheaper to buy a battery than a new laptop, both financially and environmentally.

Even if most consumers don’t choose to replace the battery at home—even something as simple as unscrewing the case, popping the connector, and replacing the part—reduces the effort and complexity of first- and third-party repair centers.

When Apple introduced its first Apple Silicon-based laptop, it had a chance to change the consumer market. In terms of performance, ARM-based chipsets do this internally. Apple’s failure to take steps to make its laptops more accessible and consumer-friendly on the outside is both unfortunate and a huge missed opportunity.
